The one word I would use to describe Danae and Don’s wedding is sweet. Everything about their love is so sweet and tender, from the way they hold hands to how they look into each other’s eyes. What started as a friendship of multiple years blossomed into something much, much more. Their ceremony at The Woodland Place in Vinton, VA was gorgeous, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the dancing and desserts at the reception.
One thing that kept returning throughout the day for me was the idea of tying shoes. Danae has a physical disability that inhibits her movements, and one thing she can’t do on her own is tie her shoes. As she was donning her wedding dress, her mother said, with a lump in her throat, “This could be the last time I tie your shoes.” During the ceremony, the presiding pastor spoke about how Don’s father only had one arm, and Don would tie his shoes for him every morning. Now, Don would be tying Danae’s shoes. I hadn’t known that about Don, and it was touching to realize that he really was prepared to serve Danae as her husband in whatever ways she needed. Nearly the best part of the whole symbolism of shoes that day is that Danae wore iridescent, glittering Sketchers which were the perfect pop of fun. Congratulations Danae and Don!
