Cody and Kelsey are so wonderfully kind and sweet. They are the kind of couple that asks a photographer to take a spontaneous photo of them with a loved one during their reception and then says “Thank you so much!” with true appreciation. Many couples don’t show such gratitude because they are (understandably) so busy enjoying their day and just figure that the photographer is simply doing their job. But, Kelsey and Cody are not most people.
Though they went to school together as kids - even ended up on the same yearbook page! - Kelsey and Cody didn’t truly know each other until after college when they met through mutual friends. For their big day, they decided to celebrate at Bluestone Vineyards, just outside Harrisonburg, VA. The scenery was awash in sunlight and framed by the lovely neighboring mountains. It was gorgeous from every angle, thanks to the vineyard’s convenient hilltop location. Before the day really started, Kelsey and Cody got to share some moments alone during their first look in the vineyard. They were smiling from ear to ear and kept making each other laugh. It’s moments like those that make the stress of wedding photography totally worth it.
After a sentimental ceremony overlooking the hills, a cocktail hour followed. Then came the reception with all of the trimmings - special dances, cake cutting, wine glass refills, and even a family flash mob! Some of my favorite moments from the day were:
Kelsey’s brother singing and playing the piano as she walked down the aisle
Kelsey’s speech during the ceremony before the passing of the rings - she teared up as she shared she’d never had that one best friend…until Cody
the father-daughter dance that turned into a surprise choreographed piece to Jimmy Buffett’s “Fins”, complete with sunglasses and leis
overhearing one of the bridesmaids say “What was he waiting for?!” when Lil’ Jon’s “Low” came on during the reception
the gorgeously intimate sunset photoshoot of Kelsey and Cody - the soft colors and their happiness just had me swooning
Cody and Kelsey, it was really wonderful to be a part of your day and help capture the celebrations. Congratulations!
