Emily and Michael wanted to capture some photos in their sweet Roanoke home that they’ve cultivated for over six years. Living on the fringe of downtown, these two have lovingly styled and designed their home over the years to be personal and yet also wonderfully trendy.
I walked in and was instantly impressed by the rich jewel tones and mid-century modern furniture. Emily and Michael have created a space that feels purposeful, but also relaxed. I ogled their cute bar cart and thriving house plants, soaking up all of the flair. Emily settled herself at their charming bar window while Michael planted himself on the other side in the kitchen, mixing up some fancy cocktails for them to enjoy. Familiar indie tunes played over the speakers and I got into my groove watching Michael concoct some luxurious drinks: a trinidad sour for the Mrs. and a Manhattan for himself.
After the drinks were ready, I followed them into the living room where they cozied up on the couch and sipped their cocktails. I asked them about their neighborhood and we sat together, admiring the atmosphere as the afternoon light streamed in through the windows. Emily and Michael even got up to do a little dancing their foyer area, doing some slow spins and twirls to their wedding song, Sinatra’s “Love is Here to Stay”. I might have just died a little bit over the cuteness.
Lastly, after a swift outfit change, we caravanned downtown to meet up on Kirk Avenue. We walked the cobblestone street, taking in all of the new springtime greenery that was popping on the trees and laughing at the violent gusts of wind.
Emily and Michael clearly have a passion for their home and the city that contains it. This photoshoot was such a fun celebration of love as well as a celebration of place. Thanks to you two for inviting me into your home to capture your lives in Roanoke!
