Emma was accompanied in her senior portrait session by sweet grass, warm sun, and - most excitingly - her beloved horse, KC. I had worked with dogs and cats before, but never a horse, so I was absolutely thrilled to do this session. Emma and KC made for a lovely pair and they absolutely crushed it. Emma’s light blond hair and fair skin contrasted beautifully with KC’s rich chocolatey tones. We did the shoot at the stable where Emma rides KC for lessons and competition preparation, so it was totally fitting that she wore her stable boots, jeans, and cute country-vibe tops to match the scene. She even whipped out her competition equestrian gear just before the sun set at the end of the session.
Aside from their aesthetic synergy, Emma and KC entertained each other throughout the shoot. It was precious to witness. She would gently lead him by the reins from one spot to another as we wandered through the tall grass and along the edge of the woods. KC was perfectly happy to follow along - as long as he could snack. Which, technically, he was not supposed to be doing. He would serve up some cute looks and then immediately shift his attention back to the food blowing in the breeze just beneath his nose. Emma would dutifully try to keep him away from overstocking, but KC often showed determination with a yank of his great head. Sweet Emma would just burst into a huge laugh, showing off her dimples.
I can’t really imagine what could be better in your senior portrait session other than having your huge, handsome, snack-loving bestie and competition partner by your side to make you laugh and keep you feeling safe. It was no small deal that Emma wanted to include KC in these special photos. Her lifelong love of horses - and love of life - shone throughout this session.
