I had captured Grace’s maternity photos just a few months before, so it was somewhat surreal to return to her home for a newborn session. All of a sudden there was a new human being there to greet me, and the household orbit had shifted dramatically to include him. As Grace is a dear friend, it was so precious to document these early days in her and Keegan’s new life with little Walter.
It was a cool winder day, so we stayed inside to keep it cozy. True to Grace’s style, the family looked put together but also relaxed in neutral tones and natural fabrics. Their pup Peach always kept close, keeping an eye on Walter and sneaking him kisses when she could. She seemed to have adjusted pretty well to having a new planet in their solar system, especially considering she’d been an only (fur) child for years. Walter, perfectly unaware of the seismic shift his arrival had caused, was totally content. He faded in and out of naps, enjoying cuddles the whole time. His tiny knit sweater kept him warm and dapper. Grace and Keegan held him close and looked at him with all sorts of feelings: bewilderment, awe, amusement, love. As I watched from behind my camera, my own heart grew to make room for this new little life. Babies are truly miracles - they remind us of how very precious our own lives are.
